We have made some improvements to the NHS Jobs application form, changing the way in which you enter and view information and updating some of the questions. The new application form will be used for any new vacancies advertised on or after 8 January 2009. For vacancies advertised before this date the existing form will continue to be used.
If you have previously submitted an NHS Jobs application form your saved details will now be shown in the new style form when you apply for new vacancies. However, a number of questions have been updated and you will need to re-enter these answers. This change will not affect any current applications you are working on in 'Your applications'. You will be able to complete and submit these forms as normal.
Always check each section of the form thoroughly to ensure that your application is complete and your answers are relevant to the vacancy for which you are applying.

Recent changes to the UK immigration rules affect most applicants from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and we encourage you to check the UK Border Agency website to see which route you need to apply to. Applicants from outside the UK/EEA may need to obtain a Certificate of Sponsorship from a potential employer before they will be allowed to enter the UK to work. Since March 2007, NHS Jobs profile databases for each strategic health authority (SHA) region have been available to support newly qualified healthcare professionals find your first employment in the NHS.
The service is only offered to healthcare professionals who have qualified in the last 18 months. If you qualified more than two years ago your membership will soon expire and your details will be removed from the database from 1 October 2008. However, your SHA may want to keep in touch with you in a different way, in which case they will let you know.

As a result of feedback and requests from the NHS Jobs user community a number of improvements have been made to the search facility of the NHS Jobs service as of the 28 February 2008. The details of the improvements made are:
NHS Jobs has upgraded the database of locations which gives you far greater choice when searching for vacancies. In the case of 'duplicate' locations you can now specify which location you actually mean e.g. there are 2 Brixtons in England, but you will now be able to distinguish the Brixton in Devon from the Brixton in London and receive more specific search results.
If you have Jobs by Email set-up and have used one of the duplicate location names within your search, we have defaulted the location to the most likely of the duplicates. We will warn you if we have done this in your first 3 emails after the changes are made.
If the wrong location has been chosen, you can easily change it to the correct location. To make this change log on to the NHS Jobs site, click on the "My Jobs by Email" link in the left hand menu, this will take you to your saved search settings. Click the "Edit" button on the search you wish to amend, delete the location identifier that appears in the curly brackets, '{}', within the location field and then click on "Save" at the bottom of the screen. This will take you to a screen where you can clarify your location option from a drop-down list and add additional locations if you wish. Once you have chosen the appropriate location clicking on "Submit" will save the choice to your Jobs by Email search settings.
The salary selection on both the Detailed Search and Jobs by Email has been changed to incorporate a lower and upper selection so that you can search for a salary within a range of values. You can also search for vacancies by specifying a pay scheme and pay band, both of which are new items to the search.
Another enhancement enables the recruiters to mark a vacancy as suitable for a newly qualified applicant. In the Detailed Search and Jobs by Email forms there is a checkbox, as part of the 'Job Type' selection, this allows you to search for those vacancies that have been flagged as suitable for newly qualified applicants. It will take a little time for this type of vacancy to grow in number as recruiters have only been able to set this flag from 28 February 2008.
The NHS Jobs service has implemented https security enabled web pages across those parts of the service where application details are entered or viewed. Https indicates that a secure Http connection is used (Learn More).
NHS Jobs is very conscious of providing a secure service. As such the implementation of https is designed to assure users over and above the security measures currently in place that their interactions with NHS Jobs, such as submitting their personal details on applications, are transmitted and stored securely.
The changes have been implemented across the candidates' login and application forms, where personal information is submitted or viewed.
You will not notice any significant differences to how the service operates or performs. However you will notice that the web addresses start with https and that a yellow padlock will be visible on your web browser when looking at the login form and application form.
You can now access information on NHS Jobs in Welsh. Since 22 August 2007, NHS Jobs has provided a Welsh language service for the majority of our web pages and for some vacancy details where this option made available by the recruiting employer. Where a Welsh language version of a page is available, click on 'Cymraeg' and the translated page will automatically appear.
The NHS Jobs team will continue to work closely with NHS Wales and the Welsh Language Board in order to continue making improvements to the site. However, we would welcome your feedback on the Welsh language service highlighting any areas you think need improvement in order that a first class service for the people in Wales is maintained.

Are you a newly qualified healthcare professional? If you qualified in the 18 months there is now a new NHS Jobs service that may help you find your first job in healthcare.
Log into NHS jobs today, set up your 'Jobs by e-mail' searches and then use the 'Your Profiles' link to register your details with your local Newly Qualified Profile Pool - there's one for each SHA region in England. You'll start to receive details of NHS job opportunities as soon as they are advertised, and your local SHA will provide you with additional support including information about job opportunities outside of the NHS, additional career support available and other local information to help your job search.
This service has been designed to support healthcare professionals that have already qualified in their chosen profession. If you have not yet received your qualification you will not be eligible to sign up for this service.
